Nov. 7 (Bloomberg) — Royal Dutch Shell Plc plans to start drilling Brazilian deepwater oil finds below a salt layer at the end of 2009 in the Epitonio field, in the BM-S-54 block, Valor Economico reported, without saying where it got the information.

Shell has 13 concessions in Brazil, two of which are in production, the Brazilian newspaper said on its Web site.

Separately, the Espirito Santo floating platform, with capacity to process 100,000 barrels of oil a day, is due to arrive in December or January and will produce oil and gas at the BC-10 block where the Ostra, Abalone and Argonauta fields are located, Valor said. Brazil’s Petroleo Brasileiro SA holds 35 percent of that project and India’s Oil & Natural Gas Corp. has 15 percent, the newspaper said.

Jonas Castro, a geologist formerly employed with Brazil’s oil regulator and with Petrobras, is Shell’s new manager of exploration in Brazil, according to Valor.
