NEW YORK, Sept 25 (Reuters) – Shell Oil (RDSa.L: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), the largest oil producer in the storm-battered Gulf of Mexico, said on Thursday it expects the bulk of its offshore fields back on line within two weeks.
The Gulf of Mexico, home to a quarter of U.S. crude oil production and 15 percent of its natural gas output, has been virtually shut down since late August by back to back hurricanes, Gustav and Ike.
Shell said it expects its Mars, Ursa, West Delta 143, Brutus and South Timbalier 301 oil fields in the Gulf of Mexico to be back on line by the end of next week.
The company added in a press release that its Auger and Enchilada fields are expected to restart by the middle of the following week.
Shell said it was currently producing about 32,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, down from its capacity of about 500,000 boepd.
As of Thursday morning, some 59.3 percent of the Gulf of Mexico’s 1.3 million bpd of oil production remained shut in the wake of the storms, along with 56.4 percent of the region’s 7.4 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas, according to the Minerals Management Service.

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
