MAURA HARRINGTON ENDS HUNGER STRIKE AS SOLITAIRE LEAVES IRISH WATERS
19 September 2008
Today’s departure of the Solitaire from Irish territorial waters is a major victory for both Maura Harrington and the Shell to Sea campaign. We hope that it does not attempt to return to Irish waters. If it does it will be met with even more determined opposition on land and at sea.
Shell to Sea salutes the courage and tenacity of Maura Harrington throughout her hunger strike, and we wish her a speedy recovery for her ordeal in the company of her family. Her action has resonated around Ireland and the world, and has shone a light of publicity upon the situation in Erris, publicity which Shell and the Government of Ireland have tried with all their power to deny us.
We hope that the breathing space that the departure of the Solitaire brings will lead to dialogue to create an acceptable solution for the community here. It is time that Minister Eamon Ryan engaged honestly with the local community.
We also hope that people around Ireland acquaint themselves with what is being done to their fellow-citizens in Co. Mayo in their name with their taxpayers’ money.
We re-iterate our opposition to the foisting of this unwanted project on the people of Erris and the give-away of Ireland’s natural resources to multinational corporations.

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
