Politicians sign statement asking Shell to help end hunger striker’s campaign
Wednesday, 17 September 2008
A number of politicians have signed a statement calling for Shell to put an end to a hunger strike being staged by campaigner Maura Harrington.
Ms Harrington is a member of the Shell to Sea group which is opposed to the work being carried out by the company in Mayo.
She began a hunger strike ten days ago when the ship Solitaire arrived to start laying the pipeline for the Corrib project.
David Norris, Joe Higgins and Patricia McKenna are among the signatories of the statement calling for Shell to end Ms Harrington’s protest by clarifying when the pipe laying will begin.
