Shell says it can squeeze 10 more years from Ursa
Bloomberg News
Royal Dutch Shell said it extended the life of its Gulf of Mexico oil field by 10 years after injecting water to push out displaced crude.
Water is being pumped from the Ursa rig in the Ursa-Mars basin, about 100 miles off the U.S. coast, to flush out oil from the Ursa and Princess fields, Shell said in a statement posted on its Web site today.
The Hague-based company said it leads its rivals Exxon Mobil Corp., BP Plc and ConocoPhillips in development of the Ursa/Princess Waterflood project.
“With a listed volume enhancement capacity of 30,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, the waterflood is expected to extend the life of the field by 10 years,” Shell said.
