Shell repairs damage to cars from gasoline mixed with water

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

SEATTLE — Shell Oil Co. says it’s paying to repair cars damaged by gasoline contaminated with water in the Seattle area.

A Shell news release says bad gas was delivered to four filing stations, and some of it was bought by about 10 customers at two of the stations at Safeway stores on Sunday. Motorists say it made their cars sputter and stall.

Shell says human error at the company’s terminal in Seattle resulted in the contaminated fuel being loaded into delivery trucks. The company says it involved one tank at the terminal and was not related to operations at the company’s refinery in Anacortes.

The Seattle terminal was reopened for gas deliveries to filling stations Monday.
