IN its quest to boost local content in development projects in Nigeria, Shell Petroleum Development Company has said that its $20 billion investments in Niger Delta will embrace Nigerians in the most critical sector of the economy.
Most of the projects which are located in Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states, among others, would provide direct employment to over 16,000 skilled and unskilled as well as semi-skilled youths, while several thousands would be indirectly employed.
Disclosing the development in Port Harcourt, last weekend, at a press parley, General Manager, Local Content Development of Shell Dr. Eddie Wikina said some of the projects “making statements in the LCD arrangement are ‘front end engineering design’ (FEED).
He said there were also detailed engineering of the H-block integrated facility on the shallow water off Bonny in Rivers, the Gbaran/Ubie Intergrated projects in Bayelsa, and the proposed Bonga South West facility in the deepwater off Delta State as well as the deepwater study centre in Lagos.
Wikina explained that massive swamp and shallow water construction and services were on-going in Onne, Rivers and Warri Delta, “even as onshore and deepwater construction services are being carried out simultaneously in Port Harcourt and Lagos.”
On other areas where Nigerians are in greater percentage, he listed Afam and Cawthorne Channel integrated projects. He said Shell had developed, approved and communicated the Nigerian content policy directives to all staff and contractors.

Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
