KUALA LUMPUR: Shell Malaysia Ltd, British American Tobacco Group Service Delivery and Samsung Electronics Display (M) Sdn Bhd have been announced as the finalists for the Malaysia Outstanding HR Achievement Award category presented to large organisations with 300 employees and above for the Malaysia HR Awards 2007.

The Malaysia HR Awards is organised by the country’s largest recruitment company, Kelly Services, in partnership with the Malaysian Institute of Human Resource Management (MIHRM).

It consists of three categories — Malaysia Outstanding HR Achievement Award, the Promising HR Excellence Awards and the HR Leader Award.

In a statement yesterday, Kelly Services said finalists for the Promising HR Excellence Award category were Gateway Options Sdn Bhd, Swuishun Food Trading Sdn Bhd and Cape Technology (M) Sdn Bhd. Nominations in this category were opened to SMEs or local organisations with less than 300 employees.

Datuk Abdul Aziz Abu Bakar, senior vice president, group human resource management, Telekom Malaysia Bhd, and Dr Azizah Johor, senior human resource manager, Asian Composite Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, are the nominees for the HR Leader Award.

This award recognises those individual HR professionals who have made outstanding contributions to human resource management.

Kelly Services said the winners would be announced and presented with their awards at a gala night to be held on Nov 12.

Its vice president, country general manager Malaysia, Melissa Norman, said having big brand names on board would help uplift the profile of the HR industry. She said this would help propagate the fact that HR was no longer just an administrative function but played an important role as part of successful business strategies.

“With the notable brand names actively taking part in the Malaysia HR Awards this year, it shows that employers are taking positive action to take on the talent war and shortage by promoting themselves as employers of choice.

“Having leading corporations participate will work affirmatively to encourage other corporations to follow suit, to promote their own organisations’ brands, work cultures and employment policies to attract talent,” she said.
