Iran and China are planning to establish a joint shipping line for transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) between Iran and China.

The Planning Manager of the National Iranian Oil Tanker Company Abdolsamad Ta’aqol noted NIOTC and Chinese company China Shipping LNG Investment Company will establish the firm to take a total of three million tons of liquefied natural gas from Iran to China, Shana reported.

He said negotiations for establishing the shipping line were held during a recent visit by NIOTC’s Managing Director, Mohammad Souri to China.

“The visit focused on cooperation in the field of transfer of LNG as agreed by Chinese purchasers of products of North and South Pars gas fields,” added the official.

Noting that China has ushered in enhanced activities for development of its industrial infrastructure, he pointed out that Beijing has taken new steps for strategic planning for procurement of fuel and launching LNG projects.

“In Souri’s recent visit important talks were held on further cooperation with potential buyers of LNG in transportation filed and establishment of joint shipping line,” Ta’aqol further noted.

He pointed out that Iran is holding talks with big companies, including Spain’s Repsol, France’s Total and British Royal-Dutch Shell.

Iran is planning to export about 83 million tons of LNG by 2014.
