SINGAPORE, July 19 (Reuters) – Singapore fined Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.L: Quote, Profile , Research) S$25,000 ($16,500) for safety lapses that led to the death of a worker at its offshore refinery in the city state, local radio said on Thursday.
Singapore radio 93.8 Live said Anglo-Dutch Shell pleaded guilty in court on Thursday, for failing to put in place safe work procedures at its offshore refinery in Singapore.
The 35-year-old worker died after suffering chemical burns on 17 percent of his body in an accident which took place in 2005, 93.8 Live said.
Singapore is home to a multi-billion dollar oil refining industry that hosts major oil firms including Shell and Exxon Mobil (XOM.N: Quote, Profile , Research).
Two Exxon workers in Singapore were killed in May after a fire broke out at its offshore refinery.

Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
