MONACO contractor SBM Offshore has secured a floating production contract from Shell to provide a ship on the BC-10 Brazilian project, writes Martyn Wingrove.
It will co-operate with Malaysia International Shipping Corporation to supply a floating production storage and offloading vessel from the end of 2008 or early 2009.
SBM will be in the market for equipment to help it convert a very large crude carrier into an FPSO capable of processing 100,000 barrels of oil and injecting up to 75,000 barrels of water back into the reservoir.
With storage of more than 2m barrels, the vessel will be used in deepwaters off Brazil for Shell and its partners Petrobras and India’s Oil ‘ Natural Gas Corporation.
Shell has awarded a 15-year lease to SBM Offshore and there are provisions to extend this for another five years depending on performance of the oilfield.
The vessel will require turbines capable of generating 60 megawatts of power for operating facilities including water injection pumps and processing modules.
It will be installed in around 1,780 m of water and be surrounded by seafloor production systems including flowlines and subsea wellheads.
SBM Offshore has worked with MISC on other FPSO operations including one for state group Petrobras’ Roncador development.

Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
