A Shell to Sea day of action has been called for this Friday (November 10th) at the Shell refinery site in Bellanaboy.
Supporters from around the country will assemble at the site in north west Mayo on Friday morning to support the local people in their struggle against Shell and the Irish government’s plan to impose a dangerous polluting refinery and an experimental pipeline scheme on them.
November 10th has been chosen based on its resonance as the date of the anniversary of the execution by hanging of the Ogoni nine. In 1995, Daniel Gbokoo, Dr. Barinen Klobel, John Kpuinen, Baribor Bera, Saturday Dobee, Felix Nuate, Nordu Eawoh, Paul Levura and Ken Saro-Wiwa were killed by the Nigerian Government because of their protests against Shell’s activities in the Niger Delta.
Around the world, November 10th is marked by those who protest against corrupt governments and rapacious multi–national companies.
Fairly basic accommodation has been arranged by the solidarity camp for Thursday night. A sleeping bag is required.

It is advisable to bring:
Warm clothing and waterproofs.
A packed lunch/ food for Friday morning.
A hi-visibility jacket.

Please Note:
Spending time outdoors in north west Mayo in the winter is a serious prospect. Please bring sensible footwear and warm and waterproof clothing.
The protest on Friday morning will be entirely peaceful, and in support of the local community. There is likely to be provocation from the police and Shell contractors, however no displays of aggression from our side will be tolerated by Shell to Sea. The protest is a non-violent direct action.

For those who can’t travel to Mayo, in Dublin on Friday November 10th, a solidarity demonstration has been arranged at the Corporate headquarters of Shell, at 1.15PM.
A wreath in memory of Ken Saro Wiwa and the Ogoni Eight will be laid.
Steve Mills of The Sierra Club will attend as well as elected representatives from political parties which support Shell to Sea and the people of Erris. The Sierra Club is America’s oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization. (www.sierraclub.org).

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
