Oct. 13 (Bloomberg) — A protester trying to prevent workers from entering the site of a Royal Dutch Shell Plc natural-gas terminal in western Ireland was injured and taken to a hospital, according to a member of the protest group.
Maura Harrington fell and hit her head today as she tried to pass police at the site in Bellanaboy, near Rossport in County Mayo, Vincent McGrath, a fellow protester, said in a telephone interview.
“She fell back on the road and came down on the back of her head,” McGrath said. Harrington was “concussed” and taken to a hospital, he said, without giving details of her condition.
Work on the terminal intended to process gas from the Corrib gas field has been delayed by opposition from local residents, who want the gas processed off the coast rather than piped ashore. Shell says that can’t be done because the field is too deep and the sea too rough. Five Rossport residents, including McGrath, spent 94 days in jail last year for obstructing construction of the pipeline leading to the terminal.
“There was an injury there this morning and we are investigating all the circumstances in relation to that,” a police spokeswoman said. She declined to comment further.
In a bid to end the dispute, Shell said on Aug. 3 it plans to modify the route of the pipeline. That offer hasn’t satisfied the protesters, who have been trying to keep workers out of the site.

Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.

What is going on in Mayo is so sad. Mayo is a beautiful and an ecologically distinct area in the west of Ireland. It is sacreligious that a company with an environmental record such as Shell’s should be allowed to set up shop there. Shell do not care about the people and the environment all they care about is extracting the black gold. The reality is Black Gold has a negative intrinsic value in the current economic environment. This means that the damage that it is causing to the environment is greater than the economic benefit derived from extracting and consuming it. This is particularly evident when the cost of the clean up operations that it has to employ is factored into the the cost of carrying out the projects. This cost however is on the increase and it could cost the planet. It is people that run Shell oil not machines and ultimatly they will suffer the Karmic consequences of their actions. You cannot eat money and you cannot drink oil. Amen
