MORE than 40 top executives from Royal Dutch Shell’s global project community gathered at the Sheraton yesterday to share information on leading-edge strategies and practices in project delivery.
Delegates to the annual Shell Project Directors’ Conference represented Shell’s largest capital investment projects, including the recently launched world-scale integrated Pearl Gas to Liquids (GTL) project, which is being developed in partnership with Qatar Petroleum.
Conference discussions addressed a range of critical project delivery topics including health, safety and environment (HSE), contracting and procurement.
Shell Qatar Country Chairman, Andrew Brown, said: “First quartile operations and delivering project excellence are top priorities for Shell. We are delighted to host this event which will enable our operations in Qatar, where some of the world’s largest energy projects are under development, to leverage the depth of project management expertise we have across Shell globally.”
The Pearl GTL project includes the development of offshore natural gas resources in the North Field, transporting and processing the gas to extract natural gas liquids and ethane, and the conversion of the remaining gas into clean liquid hydrocarbon products through the construction of the world’s largest integrated GTL complex in Ras Laffan Industrial City.

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
