MUSCAT — As part of a series of six courses planned for 2006, and in association with the Shell Learning Centre, the Shell Representative Office Oman organised ‘Time Management’, ‘Presentation Skills’ and ‘Creative Problem Solving’ courses.
More than 80 participants from various government, private sector and non-governmental organisations attended the courses, which were held in Muscat, and for the first time in Salalah.
The ‘Time Management’ course was developed to aid participants in the understanding that although time is not manageable, a person and his energy are. It allows participants to understand how to work according to a plan, determine priorities and eliminate wasted time as much as possible.
The ‘Presentation Skills’ course was developed to help participants analysing their audience’s needs beforehand in order to select and prepare material that will have the greatest impact, improve their presentation techniques, and learn how to handle questions and answers effectively.
The ‘Creative Problem Solving Course’ trains participants how to schedule problem-solving and decision-making tasks within a constrained time. Through the use of ‘video’ case studies and accelerated learning concepts, it is designed to develop specific questioning techniques that improve the ability to make decisions, cut through complex situations, solve tough problems and plan ahead.
All training courses were conducted by Rob Veersma, a professional learning and development consultant at the Shell Learning Centre in the Netherlands.
Dr Andrew Wood, Shell country chairman in Oman, said: “The Shell courses that we are conducting today, represent part of our drive to share the knowledge that we have attained from the 140 countries and territories where we operate.”
He added saying: “In addition to the successful Intilaaqah Programme, which has benefited more than 3,000 people since its establishment, the Shell Representative Office in Oman has initiated a number of programmes addressing the areas of employment and education that are directed towards younger Omanis”.
Participants in the course expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the opportunity offered by the Shell Representative Office. One of the participants, Badriya Al Siyabi, a member at Sidab Women Sewing Group, commented saying: “I really liked the way the course is organised and the excellent level of the instructor. Although this is my first participation in such courses organised by Shell Representative Office Oman, I feel it’s a good chance to refresh your knowledge, get new ideas, and meet new people.
Coming from a non-profit community group, I do feel that this course has developed my skills and knowledge, and it will definitely add to my organisation; and I recommend my colleagues to join these courses whenever a chance is available.”

Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
