Royal Dutch Shell Plc .com: Shell jobs secure: Shell Fiji general manager Peter Walsh

PERMANENT staff of Shell Fiji Limited will continue to work when the new owner, Total France SA takes over later in the year.

The contractual terms and conditions of employment offered by the French company will be no less favourable than each employee’s existing contract. This was revealed in a question and answer statement by Shell Fiji general manager Peter Walsh.

The statement stated the new owners would decide appropriate staffing levels after the sale which is expected to be completed late this year or early next year.

It said Shell and the purchasers made this agreement in order to maximise continuity for Shell staff.

It also stated it was highly unlikely the deal would change the price of fuel.

“The Pacific Islands market is largely governed by government pricing templates and local competition. In turn, the pricing templates are driven by the price of crude and other market factors.”

It revealed under the conditional sale and purchase agreements, Shell would embark upon a withdrawal of its brand subject to appropriate transition arrangements in Fiji and Tonga.

“We will continue to offer our full range of products until the completion of a sale. After this point, Shell has negotiated supply agreements with each purchasing company for supply of Shell fuels for up to five years into the Pacific Islands,” it said.
