LONDON, June 17 (IranMania) – According to Iran Daily, France’s oil and gas giant Total is involved in talks with the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) on a high-profile contract for developing Phase XI of the giant project to develop the world’s largest offshore gas field, South Pars.
Akbar Torkan, managing director of Pars Oil and Gas Company, told Fars news agency that the initial steps have been completed, stressing that Total, NIOC and Petronas of Malaysia will most likely take up the Phase XI job.
The official said talks are also underway with Royal/Dutch Shell on development of Phase XIII.
“We are expecting to have the Shell contract signed as there seems to be no problems in this respect,” he said, adding that advertising on the tender for Phase XIV will begin as soon as the NIOC gives the go-ahead.
He said the Phase XI project had been designed in 2004, adding that the project will include drilling 20 wells for producing 56.6 million cubic meters of sour gas per day.
Several major international oil companies have bid for development projects in South Pars.
Torkan told reporters earlier that Shell, Eni of Italy, Total of France, Statoil of Norway, BHP of Australia, Lukoil of Russia and a number of other international oil and gas companies have requested tender documents for phases 19-20.
Iran is producing five billion cubic feet of gas per day from the joint field, which is almost equal to Qatar’s production from its own sector of the huge gas field.
Iran holds the world’s second largest gas reserves after Russia. The country is the fourth largest producer of crude oil and second biggest exporter within Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. His burial ceremony, which had all the trappings of a state funeral, was held at his private estate in Mecklenburg, Germany. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
