Shell Is Reviewing Its Plan To Reduce Oil Production This Decade

  • The CEO of Shell has said that the company’s plan to reduce oil production by up to 2% each year this decade is now under review.

  • In 2021, Shell said that its oil production had peaked in 2019 and would continue to decline over the next three decades.

  • Recent events have highlighted the fragility of the global energy system and now Shell wants to focus on ensuring energy supply.

Shell’s plan to have its oil production decline by up to 2% each year this decade is currently under review, the supermajor’s new CEO Wael Sawan told The Times in an interview published on Friday, adding that he is a firm believer of the statement “don’t deny people energy.”

Back in 2021, Shell said that its oil production peaked in 2019 and is set for a continual decline over the next three decades as it looks toward the renewables side of the business. read more

We had Shell broadband fitted on the 13 January 2023 it hasn’t worked since the day it went in. If we are lucky we might get 20 minutes a day before it drops out we gave had to telephone calls who could not fix it an engineer called out it worked for 4 hours then dropped out we called another engineer who was booked for the second time to call on the Wednesday but he never turned up phoned Shell who told me they forgot to book the engineer he booked again for Monday. The company will not let me cancel for 30 days or I have to pay £300 to cancel. So 21 days into thus contract we get approximately 20 minutes service. I am now taking legal action against thus absolutely dreadful company. Whatever you do don’t take out out a contract out with this diabolical company you will be sorry read more

Avoid Shell

Shell broadband is awful. Poor signal.
When you do get a signal it drops off.
No person to call for help and they send you email instructions – no good if you have no internet and have to use mobile data.
When you can read your emails they send you the same information over and over again

Complete and absolute nightmare

Complete and absolute nightmare. Where can I start been with them sine 2018 no problem smart meter reading always worked. Then in January 2023 smart meter failed to communicate so an estimate bill was generated wait for it £2500 for one month!!. I immediately phoned and complained they advised it would be corrected in February bill it wasn’t another bill for £1500 so phoned and asked to make a proper complaint I was transferred through to complaints department who said they would sort this out and contact me now at end of Feb and still waiting for them to contact me as they said they would. I would never usually bother to leave a bad review but feel the need to share about avoiding Shell! Unfortunately the only positive thing to say about Shell is that the internet is ok (if it works) but the customer service (if you manage to get through before being on hold for an hour) is terrible. I’ve been lied to about my rights, had issues with resolving any internet problems (seems to take a while to resolve anything, even when the internet doesn’t work at all). The router they send is terrible and randomly died but Shell didn’t take responsibility and charged me for an engineer visit (which they later refunded after multiple calls disputing). I’ve had issues with connection and speed. Whether it’s zero internet or bad connection and poor speed. read more

Dutch gov’t, Shell and Exxon ignored Groningen risks for years, inquiry finds

Dutch gov’t, Shell and Exxon ignored Groningen risks for years, inquiry finds

AMSTERDAM, Feb 24 (Reuters) – The Dutch government and energy companies Shell (SHEL.L) and Exxon Mobil (XOM.N) ignored the risks of gas production in Groningen for years, to the detriment of people living in the province, a parliamentary inquiry concluded on Friday.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte and others involved “gravely underestimated” the urgency of the problems in Groningen, said the committee set up to investigate the decades of lucrative gas extraction that caused tremors damaging thousands of houses and buildings in the region.

The massive Groningen field is operated by Shell and Exxon joint venture NAM and was one of Europe’s major suppliers of natural gas for decades.

“These are hard and painful conclusions,” Rutte told a news conference. “They make clear there is a lot to do to help the region and to hopefully restore trust.”

The government will take time provide a full response to the report, he said without indicating how long that would take.

A statement from NAM director Johan Atema said: “It is clear that we need to have a better eye for the society in which we work. It is up to us to show that we as a company have learned from this.” read more

Shell took over my post office account. Having read other reviews I realise that I have been fortunate not to have had any problems with internet or phone. However I am only getting 20mps and I am pretty sure my PO contract was offering 35-ish.

However, Shell seem to be totally incapable of organising a direct debit and kept cutting me off. In the end I had to resort to paying online each month. At around £42 a month for “Superfast Broadband” and any time calls, it’s not a cheap option (not even fibre) and I am thankful that my contract is about to finish. read more

LONDON, Feb 9 (Reuters) – A group of European institutional investors is backing a novel London lawsuit against energy giant Shell’s (SHEL.L) board over alleged climate mismanagement in a case that could have far-reaching implications for how companies tackle emissions.

ClientEarth, an environmental law charity turned activist Shell investor, said it had filed a High Court claim on Wednesday, alleging Shell’s 11 directors have failed to manage the “material and foreseeable” risks posed to the company by climate change – and that they are breaking company law. read more

Shell threatens Greenpeace protestors with jail and fines: But legal tactics fail as Greenpeace sends second boat and more climbers

Greenpeace International: 6 February 2023

Action pics and video available here, with updates throughout the day.

Amsterdam, Netherlands – Shell has attempted to silence Greenpeace International’s peaceful occupation of its oil and gas platform at sea, by hitting the campaign group with an injunction late on Friday, February 3, threatening up to two years’ jail time and fines.[1]

But today, Shell’s heavy-handed legal tactics failed, as Greenpeace International successfully went ahead with plans to escalate its protest by adding two more climbers to occupy the company’s oil and gas platform – using other boats unaffected by the court order.

Protestors are demanding that the company stops expanding oil and gas production around the world, takes responsibility for fuelling the climate crisis, and pays up for the climate destruction it is causing everywhere.

At around 9am (CET) in the Channel, the Greenpeace France-chartered Merida trimaran and two small boats approached the White Marlin heavy-lift vessel, which is carrying Shell’s 34,000 tonne oil and gas platform to the North Sea. read more

Vast energy firm profits raise fresh questions over windfall tax

BBC NEWS

Vast energy firm profits raise fresh questions over windfall tax

By Douglas Fraser: Business and economy editor, Scotland

  • Vast profits for BP and Shell have put them in the frontline of a battle over the winners and losers from the energy crisis.
  • Extension of the windfall tax is seen by the industry as a way of discouraging further investment.
  • Some would prefer to see that discouraged and are dismayed as BP increases spend, while others want taxes to target benefits to shareholders.

BP and Shell get the attention because they’re big, public brands based in Britain. They’re not the only ones making vast amounts of money.

US firm ExxonMobil reported a profit of $56bn (£47bn) for last year. Chevron, also in the US, reported $36bn (£30bn).

Shell had profits of $40bn (£32bn) and BP has weighed in at $28bn (£23bn). All of them have more than doubled profits as the invasion of Ukraine and sanctions on Russia roiled the world’s energy markets.

Equinor (formerly Statoil), based in Norway and the largest supplier of gas to the UK and European Union after Russian gas flow was cut sharply, announced on Wednesday its net profit for the year was $28.7bn (£24bn), up from $8.6bn (£7bn) in 2021. Adjusted operating profits – before tax and removing one-off items – came to $75bn (£62bn). read more

Shell reports highest profits in 115 years

Oil and gas giant Shell has reported record annual profits after energy prices surged last year following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

By Simon Jack & Nick Edser: 2 FEB 2023

Profits hit $39.9bn (£32.2bn) in 2022, double last year’s total and the highest in its 115-year history.

Energy firms have seen record earnings since oil and gas prices jumped following the invasion of Ukraine.

It has heaped pressure on firms to pay more tax as households struggle with rising bills.

Opposition parties said Shell’s profits were “outrageous” and the government was letting energy firms “off the hook”. They also called for the planned increase in the energy price cap due in April to be scrapped. read more

‘Get a grip’ Shell told, as it racks up the most broadband complaints (again)

THE SUNDAY TIMES

‘Get a grip’ Shell told, as it racks up the most broadband complaints (again)

Extracts from an article by Ellie McDonald published on Sunday 29 Jan 2023 (Page 15)

Shell Energy has been told to “get a grip” after a surge in broadband and landline complaints.

The telecoms regulator Ofcom also said it was monitoring the firm’s performance because its complaints volume remains far higher than its rivals.

Shell Energy, which started providing broadband in 2016, had 27 complaints per 100,000 broadband customers between July and September 2022 and 20 complaints per 100,000 landline customers. It was also the worst in the previous three months, when it received 31 and 23 complaints per 100,000 customers respectively.

Shell Energy Broadband said: “Ofcom’s table reflects our position up to six months ago. Since then we have invested heavily and made big strides in our processes.

We’re confident that these will be reflected when Ofcom releases its results for the current period.” read more

Oil giant Shell set to unveil record profits of more than £30bn as households and businesses grapple with sky-high energy bills

Oil giant Shell is set to unveil record profits of more than £30 billion as households and businesses grapple with sky-high energy bills.

The corporate giant is expected to say this week that annual profit more than doubled as the war in Ukraine restricted supplies from Russia, sending the price of gas and electricity rocketing.

The FTSE100 behemoth and its arch rival BP have faced mounting criticism for cashing in. BP chief executive Bernard Looney famously described his company as resembling a ‘cash machine’ because of the amount of money it has made from elevated prices.

Shell puts 2,000 UK jobs at risk with review of Shell Energy retail division

Alex Lawson Energy Correspondent: Thu 26 Jan 2023

Shell has put more than 2,000 jobs in the UK at risk after launching a “strategic review” of its domestic energy and telecoms supply division.

The oil and gas supermajor said on Thursday that it had told staff in Shell Energy, which has operations in the UK, the Netherlands and Germany, that it has begun analysis of future options for the business, which could include exiting the sectors.

The UK business, which is headquartered just outside Coventry, has 1.4 million energy customers and about 500,000 broadband users.

The company said it had made the decision against the backdrop of a strategy which includes “continually exploring options to maximise the value of our portfolio and address performance in tough market conditions”.

First Utility and rebranding the business to Shell Energy Retail the following year. It took over the Post Office’s broadband customers in 2021 and now offers broadband at varying speeds across three tariffs. read more

Shell is considering selling its UK energy supply business after injecting £1.2bn into the loss-making division to help it cope with rocketing gas and electricity prices.

The company on Thursday said it had launched a strategic review of the business, which supplies 1.4m British households and also operates in the Netherlands and Germany.

It raises the prospect of the unit being sold just six years after Shell first moved into the UK household supply sector. read more

Shell plans strategic review of energy supply business which employs 2,000 in UK

Shell plans strategic review of energy supply business which employs 2,000 in UK

Oil giant Shell has raised questions about the future of its energy supply business which employs thousands of people in the UK as companies continue to struggle in a tough market.

Shell said it will launch a “strategic review” of Shell Energy, including its operations in the UK, the Netherlands and Germany.

Launched in 2008 as First Utility and bought a decade later by the oil major, Shell Energy employs around 2,000 people in the UK.

It supplies energy to around 1.4 million homes across the country and broadband to around half a million customers.

It was not clear what options are being looked at by Shell for the unit. Companies who put their business units up for review often sell or restructure them, but sometimes keep them unchanged.

“No decisions have yet been taken on the way forward and our priority remains to ensure our customers in those countries continue to receive a reliable and affordable energy supply, and to provide support for customers who are struggling with the cost of energy and wider cost-of-living pressures,” Shell said on Thursday. read more

Shell to Review Household Energy Businesses in UK, Netherlands, Germany

Shell to Review Household Energy Businesses in UK, Netherlands, Germany

By Elena Vardon

Shell PLC on Thursday said it is starting a strategic review of its home energy retail business in the U.K., the Netherlands and Germany, but stressed that no decisions have yet been made.

The London-based energy giant said that the review is likely to take a number of months, adding that the wholesale and B2B energy supply businesses aren’t part of this review.

It didn’t say whether any jobs would be affected by the decision, but confirmed that Shell Energy Retail Ltd. currently employs around 2,000 people.

Shell said that the review is part of its ‘power progress’ strategy which includes exploring options to address performance in tough market conditions and maximize the value of its portfolio.

The company’s priority remains to ensure customers in those countries continue to receive their energy supply, and to provide support for those who are struggling with the cost of energy and wider cost-of-living pressures, it said. read more

Having made multiple requests over an eight month period, for a new smart meter due to mine not working, they finally installed a new meter which also does not work. I’ve received conflicting information as to next steps and they have little interest in fixing this.
They take out their own choice of direct debit each month, in spite of me setting this to a higher amount via their website.
I have wasted many hours in trying to resolve this, all to no avail. I will now charge to any other provider. None could be as awful as Shell. DO NOT CHOOSE SHELL ENERGY read more

Man hit with £29k Shell Energy bill after supplier error

24 Jan 2023

A man has been hit with a £29,000 energy bill following a mistake by his supplier.

Patrick Collins, from Henley, Oxfordshire, said attempts to resolve the problem with Shell Energy had so far failed.

The bill was his first from the firm after his previous supplier, Green Energy, went bust in 2021.

After being contacted by the BBC, Shell Energy said it accepted Mr Collins did not owe £29,000.

It added it was working to rectify the problem. read more

Climate activists across world raise funds for the court case against Shell

Friends of the Earth Netherlands: 20/01/2023 | 16:25 PM

In 2021, thousands of Dutch citizens took one of the largest carbon emitters in the world to court and won. Together with Friends of the Earth Netherlands (Milieudefensie) they won a historic court case against Royal Dutch Shell, the parent company of Shell Group, forcing the company to take climate action.

The judge ruled that Shell’s current climate policy would contribute to a level of climate change that would be so dangerous that it would impose a threat to human rights. read more

Flaring emissions dominate pollution from Beaver County’s Shell plant

September was a tumultuous month for the Shell chemical plant in Beaver County.

On Sept. 3, a missing O-ring in a circulation pump led to a leak of isobutane vapor. Two days later, brown emissions were seen coming out of high pressure ground flares — two metal combustion chambers that burn off unwanted gasses from the ethane cracker.

Three days after that, two separate flanges leaked hydrocarbons, and an ethylene refrigerant compressor tripped after it registered a high dew-point temperature. It tripped again two days later because of high vibration, which cascaded into a trip of several other systems. read more

Shell to spend $450m on carbon offsetting as fears grow that credits may be worthless

The fossil fuel firm Shell has set aside more than $450m (£367m) to invest in carbon offsetting projects, and plans to spend the equivalent of half the current market for nature offsets every year, the Guardian can reveal.

But a joint investigation by the Guardian, Die Zeit and Source Material into Verra, the world’s leading carbon standard for the rapidly growing $2bn voluntary offsets market, has found, based on analysis of a significant percentage of the projects, that more than 90% of their rainforest offset credits – among the most commonly used by companies – are likely to be “phantom credits” and do not represent genuine carbon reductions. read more

Awful Company AVOID!!!

Awful Company! I was with Shell Energy for nearly 3 years and nothing but hassle. Terrible customer service! Seem to get no reply! Ended up getting a whopping great bill (due to not resolving the issue as no one would respond to my emails or answer my questions on the phone) I am struggling to pay this bill as its quite big so went through stepchange and even through stepchange shell play up all the time. Now asking for full balance to be paid by March. Joke of a company. You will certainly not be seeing me ever again! I am now with Eon and they are great! read more

My service with shell went live on the 1st Nov 22, a few drop outs of service occasionally, but nothing major, it did not affect streaming or kids gaming etc, so we can live with it. The 9th December was the last day of any broadband (I miss watching Netflix on a big screen) The router is just displaying the information light and nothing more, its not making any attempt to connect, so I make all the required checks, resets, switching it off etc to no avail. I get through to Shell quite easily and the tech guy seems genuinely helpful, line tests carried out etc and says open reach need to come out which will take 3 to 4 days, but nothing is confirmed until I hear from them. I explained that I felt the router was probably the issue and questioned if it would make more sense to have a new router sent out first rather than waste time and money on an engineer, he says its not possible. read more

Shell Nearly Sold Its Norwegian Oil And Gas Assets In Late 2022

By Tsvetana Paraskova – Jan 10, 2023, 8:00 AM CST

Shell held talks last year with the biggest UK North Sea producer Harbour Energy to sell its oil and gas fields offshore Norway and some mature assets offshore the UK, but a deal ultimately couldn’t be reached due to price volatility, company sources told Reuters on Tuesday.

Shell, as well as other majors, have worked in recent years on streamlining asset portfolios to focus on the most profitable projects. Back in 2021, Shell said that its oil production peaked in 2019 and is set for a continual decline over the next three decades as it looks toward the renewables side of the business. Shell said its carbon dioxide emissions also likely peaked—a year earlier, in 2018. read more

Do not use this company originally with the Post Office but went with Shell when they took over. Broadband speed was way to slow and unreliable. Customer service is a joke and finally moved supplier. Asked to return ancient router or would be charged £35. Returned Router with letter and proof of postage. 2 month later and various phone calls to tell them the router had been returned they still wanted the £35 paid . They then forwarded the disputed debt to MIL debt collection agency without notice. Avoid with a barge pole a horrible company read more

Shell to take $2 billion fourth-quarter tax hit after new EU, UK levies

Shell to take $2 billion fourth-quarter tax hit after new EU, UK levies

KEY POINTS

  • Shell expects a fourth-quarter tax hit of $2 billion, following additional levies in the U.K. and European Union.

  • The company expects “significantly higher” results from its liquefied natural gas trading performance in the fourth quarter, compared with July-September.

  • Shell will release its final fourth-quarter results on Feb. 2.

Oil and gas major Shell said Friday it expects to take a $2 billion hit for the fourth quarter as a result of new taxes in the European Union and U.K.

“The Q4′22 earnings impact of recently announced additional taxes in the EU (the solidarity contribution) and the deferred tax impact from the increased UK Energy Profits Levy is expected to be around $2 billion,” the company said in a trading update.

The EU agreed in September that oil and gas companies will pay a levy on surplus profits made in 2022 or 2023. The “solidarity contribution” will see firms pay 33% of profits above their average taxable profits. read more

Customer service is non-existent, when you finally get through to someone you get an absolute idiot who has no idea what they are talking about. Surely they could have told you that over the telephone, absolute crap customer service.
