LAGOS, Nigeria (CNN) — Six employees of a Shell contractor were kidnapped Wednesday in southern Nigeria, a spokesman for Shell in London said.
The two Germans and four Nigerians were abducted early in the morning by youths who identified themselves as members of the Iduwini National Movement for Peace and Development, the spokesman said.
The spokesman added that the group is demanding better social services, specifically clean water, improved roads, clinics and schools.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – Royal Dutch/Shell has agreed to pay about $150 million to settle charges by U.S. and British regulators that it vastly overstated oil reserves.
Under the settlement, Shell has also agreed to commit another $5 million to establish an internal compliance program under the direction and oversight of the company’s legal director, the Securities and Exchange Commission said in a statement.
The company units cited by the SEC, Royal Dutch Petroleum and Shell Transport, neither admitted to or denied any wrongdoing, the commission said.

(CNN) — Royal Dutch/Shell has taken responsibility for contributing to the fighting and corruption in oil-rich Nigeria.
The British-Dutch oil giant, responding to an independent report, acknowledged that its business activities “inadvertently” fed the conflict in the Niger Delta.
“Government and local communities must take the lead in ending the conflict,” said Emmanuel Etoni, Shell’s community development manger in the region.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Calpers, the biggest U.S. pension fund, said on Wednesday it had placed Walt Disney Co., Royal Dutch/Shell, Emerson Electric Co. and Maytag Corp. on its “focus list” for poor financial and corporate governance performance.
Each of the four companies requires corporate governance reforms to “restore long-term profitability and investor confidence,” said Sean Harrigan, president of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, best known as Calpers.
