Shell Chemicals has launched a dedicated website where job applicants can peruse career opportunities at the company’s future ethane cracker plant in Potter Township.
The website, www.shell.us/pajobs, will link job applicants to 16 different subsets of jobs, ranging from boilermakers and electrical engineers to heavy-equipment operators and safety specialists.
While the plant isn’t expected to go online for several more years, Shell spokesman Joe Minnitte said Friday that the website allows users to register and keep their information on file in case other opportunities open up in the future.
Minnitte said “all aspects of the project” are covered on the jobs website, and those who register will be notified when jobs within their field of expertise are posted. That means that even if there aren’t immediate opportunities for job seekers, Shell will keep information on file in case new opportunities arise.
“It gives people a good opportunity to be in our system,” he said.
Each of the 16 job subsets posted on Shell’s website are accompanied by a detailed “occupational summary” that gives an in-depth description of the position. Information can also be found there about the minimum educational requirements needed to obtain that job.
In addition, the jobs page contains a “frequently asked questions” section that informs users how to apply to Shell, gives in-depth information about the cracker project and more information about Shell in general.
Minnitte said the new website is part of an effort to help Shell hire local workers.
He reiterated that the “Shell Talent Community” aspect of the new webpage will be valuable for people who might not find any current opportunities available but still want to be considered for employment in the future.
“Registering with the Shell Talent Community is not an application for a job, but it does allow us to notify you when jobs you may be interested in are posted and accepting applications,” he said.
Also, Minnitte noted a section on the website that will help prospective employees prepare for interviews with Shell.
