PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria, Oct. 18 (UPI) — Royal Dutch Shell is selling off four of its onshore Nigerian oil blocks because of the constant theft of large volumes oil from its pipelines, officials said.The move highlights the West African state’s growing battle with criminal syndicates that are stealing an average of 100,000 barrels of crude a day. That costs the continent’s second largest economy after South Africa up to $1 billion a month, a criminal enterprise on an industrial scale that officials say rivals the narcotics trade as the world’s most lucrative crime.Oil industry officials and community workers say this massive theft of Nigeria’s key resource involves crooked politicians, security forces, oil industry personnel and oil traders.
There are also militant groups operating in the oil-rich but impoverished Niger Delta, a labyrinth of swamps and creeks that provide cover for the complex network of crime.
“There’s a sophisticated organization,” says Philip Mshelbila, Shell’s chief of communications in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital. “Clearly it’s not just local. There has to be a wide network.”

Four demonstrators scaled the station’s roof in Buenos Aires, while 30 of them wore handcuffs to express solidarity with the 28 activists and two freelance journalists who are under arrest in Russia.
“Camila and Hernan, prisoners of the oil companies,” read a banner in support of Camila Speziale, 21, and Hernan Perez Orsi, 40, two Argentines in Russian custody.

More than 200 people marched almost 3km in strong winds to the Shell offices on Cape Town’s Foreshore yesterday to register their objections to fracking in South Africa. Shell’s Karoo fracking plans have sparked a battle between the government and farmers, as well as conservationists.

More than 200 people marched almost 3km in strong winds to the Shell offices on Cape Town’s Foreshore yesterday to register their objections to fracking in South Africa.
Treasure Karoo Action Group chief executive Jonathan Deal said the march was to show the government that people would not let fracking destroy the environment.
The Treasure Karoo Action Group co-hosted the march with AfriForum and other NGOs.
“The people of South Africa need to understand the threat of fracking,†Deal said.
Shell pulls back on Arctic drilling near Russia’s Sakhalin Island

An environmental group opposed to drilling in the sub-Arctic says that Sakhalin Energy has pulled back on plans for two new oil drilling platforms off Sakhalin Island. Pacific Environment says Royal Dutch Shell and Gazprom decided not to move ahead with a new mobile platform in 2014 and delayed a decision on a permanent platform until 2017. Pacific Environment says that the platforms would threaten the survival of the Western Gray Whale, of which there are only about 150 alive.
Royal Dutch Shell conspired directly with Hitler, financed the Nazi Party, was anti-Semitic and sold out its own Dutch Jewish employees to the Nazis. Shell had a close relationship with the Nazis during and after the reign of Sir Henri Deterding, an ardent Nazi, and the founder and decades long leader of the Royal Dutch Shell Group. The spectacle (photographs below) included a funeral procession led by a horse drawn funeral hearse with senior Nazis officials and senior Royal Dutch Shell directors in attendance, Nazi salutes at the graveside, swastika banners on display and wreaths and personal tributes from Adolf Hitler and Reichsmarschall, Hermann Goring. Deterding was an honored associate and supporter of Hitler and a personal friend of Goring.
Deterding was the guest of Hitler during a four day summit meeting at Berchtesgaden. Sir Henri and Hitler both had ambitions on Russian oil fields. Only an honored personal guest would be rewarded with a private four day meeting at Hitler’s mountain top retreat.
