Disgraced former Shell Group Chairman ‘The Reverend Sir Philip Watts’

ITS NOT A HOAX. I’M NOT MAKING IT UP. THE MAN IN THE DOG COLLAR IS WHO YOU THINK IT IS: DISGRACED FORMER ROYAL DUTCH SHELL GROUP CHAIRMAN SIR PHILIP WATTS, THE RESERVES FRAUDSTER ESCORTED FROM THE SHELL CENTRE BY SECURITY GUARDS. I WELL REMEMBER THE TRANSFORMATION PROCESS, BUT THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE!

FROM A FORMER EP HAND WHO WORKED CLOSELY WITH WATTS

John

Perhaps you see fit to publish this unbelievable story. I nearly had a fit when I read it and was convinced it was a hoax. But apparently it is all true, proving that real life is more strange than the most far fetched fiction that Hollywood (or nowadays the BBC) can dream up.

US food giant accused over biofuel ‘tainted with Indian blood’

Earlier this year, Raizen, a biofuels company set up by Shell and COSAN scrapped controversial plans to source sugarcane from land stolen from the Guarani after a sustained campaign by the Indians and Survival.

A US food giant has been implicated in a sugarcane scandal in Brazil that has kept an entire indigenous community off its land, polluted streams and inflicted illness and death on Guarani Indians.

Headquartered in the US, global grain trader Bunge is deeply involved in Brazil’s burgeoning biofuels market, and sources sugarcane from farmers who have taken over the ancestral land of the Guarani.

A community of 225 Guarani in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, whose land was taken from them to make way for the plantations, says the invasion of sugarcane, associated machinery and pesticides has ruined their lives over the past four years. read more

Shell, Eni Nigeria oil deal may violate UK laws -Global Witness

ABUJA | Mon Nov 12, 2012 10:02am EST

Nov 12 (Reuters) – Royal Dutch Shell and Eni could “fall foul of anti-corruption legislation” in Britain over a $1.1 billion Nigerian offshore oil block the companies bought last year, campaign group Global Witness said on Monday.

Block OPL 245, which holds an estimated 9 billion barrels of oil, had been owned by former Nigerian oil minister Dan Etete’s company Malabu Oil and Gas. It was later awarded to Shell, starting a decade-long legal dispute that ended last year. read more

Betting on Gas, Shell Floats Plan on High Seas

By STANLEY REED: 12 November 2012

A version of this special report appeared in print on November 13, 2012, in The International Herald Tribune.

THE HAGUE — At a shipyard on a South Korean island called Geoje, an army of welders and metal cutters are beginning to assemble what is by many measures the largest ship ever made.

It will span 488 meters, or about 1,600 feet — about one-third longer than some U.S. aircraft carriers. The vessel, the first of its type, will spend much of its time in one place, over a natural-gas field called Prelude, about 200 kilometers, or 120 miles, off the coast of Australia. The gargantuan craft’s majority owner is Shell. Minority partners include Korea Gas. read more

US seen overtaking Saudis as biggest oil producer

By PABLO GORONDI Associated Press /  November 12, 2012

The United States will become the world’s largest oil producer by around 2020, temporarily overtaking Saudi Arabia, as new exploration technologies help find more resources, the International Energy Agency forecast on Monday.

In its World Energy Outlook, the energy watchdog also predicted that greater oil and natural gas production — thanks partly to a boom in shale gas output — as well as more efficient use of energy will allow the U.S., which now imports some 20 percent of its energy needs, to become nearly self-sufficient around 2035. read more
