By John Donovan

Printed below is a letter recently sent to the President of Nigeria by The Delta Rights Group, a group of over 100 former Shell employees who allege that they are the victims of deceit, trickery and fraud on the part of Shell.

All reminiscent of what happened to Shell employees in Ethiopia and Malaysia.

Skirting sanctions on Iranian crude

By John Donovan

Reuters and PennEnergy have reported on the current skullduggery by Iran, which is desperately trying to skirt sanctions by turning off normal electronic tracking and identification devices on Iranian oil tankers.

Some of the oil being shipped is no doubt destined for Shell.

Trying to avoid the odium of its association with the mad mullahs, Shell has in the past resorted to subterfuge to disguise its shipments of Iranian crude.

The relationship between Shell and Iran has in fact continued unabated for many years, while the fanatical Iranian regime has been busy using the funds generated to supply roadside bombs to kill and maim Nato soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan and fund its Nuclear Bomb program. Oil revenue is crucial to Iran. read more

Academics complain to Garda Ombudsman about ‘aggressive’ procedures used

Áine Ryan [email protected]

A group of academics from National University of Maynooth (NUIM) have sent a statement to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) strongly criticising the handling of the ongoing investigation into the so-called Corrib garda rape-tape incident, which occurred just over a year ago.

The academics, who are members of staff at the Adult and Community Education and the Sociology departments at NUIM, argued that “from the outset” the commission treated their student, Ms Jerrie Ann Sullivan, one of the women at the centre of the rape-tape, as “the perpetrator rather than the victim” in the situation. read more

Partnership deals between Shell and PetroChina likely to be investigated

By John Donovan

In February 2012, Royal Dutch Shell CEO Peter Voser confirmed that Shell is in a global partnership with PetroChina and its parent company, China National Petroleum Corp.

Mr Voser said in relation to CNPC: “It’s part of our global partnership to optimize our business working environment inside and outside China.”

The partnership was agreed during the period when CNPC was under the influence/control of Zhou Bin, the son of Zhou Yongkang, a member of the all-powerful nine-member Politburo Standing Committee. Both are mired in the unfolding Bo Xilai corruption scandal, the outcome of which is likely to determine the future of China, and appear to be on the losing side. read more

Shell emits over 6m tonnes of C02 into Nigerian environment

By Clara Nwachukwu: APRIL 17, 2012

Anglo Dutch Shell has confessed to emitting as much as 6.1million tonnes of carbon dioxide, C02, into the Nigerian environment during oil and gas operations in 2011.

The admission comes, even as the international community continues to raise alarm on the effect of such emissions on humans, plants and animals in terms of increased global warning and attendant health hazards on the people.

Shell in its 2011 Sustainability Report posted on its official website said the current flare rate was, however, almost 20 percent reduction over the 2010 figures. read more
