Royal Dutch Shell Rumors Tuesday 7 Oct 2009

LATEST: We hear from our sources that Shell Expro (ie the E&P operation in the UK) is expected to LOSE about $200 million this year…

Received in Sept: Motiva inside news, Motiva norco GM Ann-Marie has quit the company and going to work for another company outside of Shell. (ConfirmedAnn-Marie Ainsworth has rejoined Sunoco)

Received 25 Sept from a worker at Stanlow Refinery. “I attended a meeting this week organised by the operators union and decided I would join them to be protected at work. However I go into work today and all of us are told to go to meetings to be told by our supervision we should not join a union. I thought this was a illegal practice in the uk to be so anti union. I will still join the union but I will not let my boss know as I am scared it will go against me. There are many problems at Stanlow due to lack of investment and today we are told not to use the showers or drink the water or use safety showers as there is an employee in hospital seriously ill with legionaires disease.” read more

Deadly Implications of Shell Brent Charlie Prohibition Notice

From a retired Shell North Sea Platform Manager…

Yet again Shell have managed to attract the attention of the HSE and have been served a prohibition notice, note not an improvement notice.

Between the lines this is very serious as the HSE normally implement action in stages to allow Operators the opportunity to take action over an agreed time period before imposing such strong measures.  The situation on Brent Charlie must have been a gross violation of the Safety Case.

What has happened to the statements issued time and time again that safety is of the highest priority always.  Being issued a prohibition notice, has to be implemented immediately,  indicates a serious violation and high risk to life of the people working on this unit. read more

Production from a Shell platform in the North Sea has been virtually halted for an unknown period after a gas problem in one of its legs.

Repairs are needed on the Brent Charlie installation, which normally handles about 26,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day.

A spokesman for the energy company said yesterday that the work needed on a heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system was unplanned and would take “some weeks”. Derek Brower in Colchester, UK: 8 January 2007

His office in a modest home in Colchester is littered with computers and other electronic equipment. A wide-screen television is tuned to BBC news. And the dog is in the car, so as not to disturb bne’s correspondent as he interviews John Donovan – David to Shell’s Goliath.

In December, Donovan, his 89-year-old father Alfred and a website he runs from his home in England’s southeast became famous. And, happily for a man who has devoted the past decade of his life to a grudge with Shell, it was all related to the Anglo-Dutch company’s problems on Sakhalin Island in Russia’s Far East. read more
