Ex-Shell exec sentenced for stealing over $1 million from company

Gregory Courtney, 50, who was an engineer for Shell, acquired a company -- Mercury Equipment and Services, Inc. -- that was a vendor for Shell, and diverted over $1 million for his personal use from the Mercury maintenance contract with Shell, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

PetroChina Sees Opening for Acquisitions

PetroChina executives said they are in talks with international oil majors including Anglo-Dutch Royal Dutch Shell PLC, Britain's BP PLC and U.S. major Chevron Corp., along with state-owned oil giants in Qatar and Venezuela. Shell, BP and Chevron declined comment on specific deals.

Largest wind farm rescued by state

Last year Royal Dutch Shell, one of the original partners alongside Eon and Dong Energy of Denmark, pulled out, saying it wanted to concentrate on onshore wind in the US, where the technology had a longer record and the returns were more certain. Shell has since said it plans no new investment in wind power because oil and gas projects offer better returns.

While the hunt for the next BP chairman grinds toward a conclusion in the summer, left-field names are being thrown at the job.

Among those looking for a big role, for example, is departing Eon chief executiveWulf Bernotat , whose contract will not be renewed when it ends in 2010 and has said he had concrete ideas for “new professional challenges” with “an international dimension” but would not give details. It titillated some of the German press, which speculated that the long-time Shell executive is a BP top-table contender. However, given the 40 per cent tumble in Eon shares this year, the BP chair could be a stretch. read more

Shell is making progress on the sale of its downstream operations in New Zealand with the appointment of UBS to seek formal expressions of interest.

Shell is looking to sell 230 service stations, its 17 per cent shareholding in the Marsden Pt oil refinery, aviation, bitumen, chemicals, commercial fuel, distribution and supply and marine business and 25 per cent holding in the operator of Fly Buys.

Its stake in Fulton Hogan and three gas and oil fields in Taranaki are not for sale. read more

Japan joins Russian push for Pacific gas projects

The first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Gazprom-led Sakhalin-2 project arrived in Japan last month. The next wave of projects could include a gas processing plant near Vladivostok, Miller said.
