THE Khulumani Support Group would hold pickets in three provinces on Thursday to coincide with the reopening of its long-running lawsuit in the New York District Court, the groups media advocacy co-ordinator, advocate Sipho Mantula, said yesterday.
The group filed a lawsuit in November 2002 in New York against 23 corporations and banks on the basis that they had aided and abetted the apartheid government in gross human rights violations. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of 87 people against multinational companies including BP, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, Rheinmetall, Shell and Total.

Shell declined to put a price on the investment, saying the agreement signed Monday merely set out the commercial principles of the joint venture, which will be 51% owned by Iraq's state-run South Gas Company and 49% by Shell.

Tentacles of the spy group Hakluyt have spread as Thomson Reuters co-deputy chairman Niall FitzGerald takes over as chairman from Sir William “Willie” Purves , the former HSBC chairman who steps aside after nine years.
The Mayfair-based company, with a former Gurkha acting as sentinel on the door, has built its “focused business intelligence” under Sir William and chief Keith Craig , a former MI6 man who joined in 2000. It was founded in 1995 by two former MI6 officers, loftily naming it after the Welsh author and explorer. They have since departed.
