My colleague Don Redhead and I made a presentation to the full board of NBC at the Rockefeller Centre in New York. Also present; Irwin S. Segelstein (President NBC Television) and W Watts Biggers (Buck Biggers – shown right) NBC VP Advertising & Promotions.

Following negotiations in New York and London with NBC Senior Vice President Steve Sohmer, I subsequently signed an agreement for a joint NBC/Don Marketing project with Ray Timothy, President of NBC Television. “Royal Dutch Shell, the Anglo-Dutch energy group, has been awarded a licence to explore for oil and gas off the west coast of Ireland, where it is engaged in a legal dispute with residents about a proposed gas refinery and pipeline.”: “Separately, Shell confirmed it was considering a bid for several Arctic oil and gas fields in Russia as part of its efforts to expand its depleted reserves.”

Royal Dutch Shell, the Anglo-Dutch energy group, has been awarded a licence to explore for oil and gas off the west coast of Ireland, where it is engaged in a legal dispute with residents about a proposed gas refinery and pipeline.

Shell submitted an application in partnership with Eni of Italy and OMV of Austria for four blocks in a deepwater area known as the Irish Rockall Trough, 150 miles off the Donegal coast. The company now has five licences for offshore exploration in the waters off Ireland. Island Oil and Gas, an Irish company listed in London, was also awarded a licence. read more

Shell yesterday shut down 14,200 barrels of daily oil production in Nigeria after community groups surrounded two of its facilities in Rivers State, in the oil-rich south-east of the country.

Shell normally produces more than 1m barrels of oil a day in Nigeria as part of a joint venture with Eni of Italy, Total of France and the state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. Shell is Nigeria’s largest oil producer.

The community groups from Rukpokwu, Rivers State, surrounded the Agbada 1 flowstation in the Niger delta, said Shell, shutting down 14,200 barrels of daily production. read more

Natural gas for vehicles (NGV) will soon be available at the pumps of vendors other than PTT to meet what boosters of the fuel call fast growing market demand, said Viroj Klangboonkrong, director general of Department of Energy Business (DEB).

Shell Thailand has asked the department for permission to sell NGV, while state-run Bangchak Petroleum Plc (BPC) said it was also considering selling the fuel.

BPC’s executive vice-president Manoon Siriwan said Bangchak was now in talks with PTT on selling NGV. If the negotiations succeed, Bangchak stations in the Bangkok area will be the first to add NGV. read more

Shell says the community should not be concerned about the emissions of a cancer-causing agent from its Geelong refinery.

Geelong residents have accused Shell of withholding data that indicates high emissions of benzene during April.

But company spokeswoman Adwina Pribyl says the emissions are not dangerously high.

“Benzene concentrations in the Geelong community are well within acceptable levels [and] Shell Geelong refinery have gone to considerable lengths to be open and honest with the community on benzene and other matters relating to our operations,” she said. read more

The City of Greater Geelong and residents’ groups are fighting plans to store a toxic chemical next to the Shell oil refinery in Corio.

The EPA has approved an application by Terminals Pty Ltd to keep butadiene at its existing Corio facility, across the road from the Shell plant.

The council and residents’ groups are challenging the EPA’s works approval in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal in Melbourne today.

Geelong Community for Good Life spokeswoman Sue McLean said before the hearing that residents were concerned about toxic emissions from the storage facility. read more

Shell Australia has been accused of withholding data showing that high levels of potentially cancer-causing benzene have been released from the oil giant’s Geelong refinery.

Former CSIRO scientist Chris Mardon, who analysed benzene data recorded by Shell’s air-monitoring equipment, claims record levels of benzene emissions came from the refinery, which is near Geelong Grammar and primary schools, over 13 days in April. read more

The Geneva-based WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Centre has ruled in favour of Alfred Donovan, who has said that he will not relinquish the site until the company gets rid of all the management he deems responsible for its various recent woes, notably the reserves scandal.

Royal Dutch Shell has bought a minority stake in Choren Industries, a German company that plans to turn wood chips into tar-freebiofuel for use in cars.

Shell would not disclose how much it had invested in Choren, which proposes to build a €50m (£34m) biofuel plant in Freiberg, eastern Germany. But it is understood that Shell’s stake in the private company is less than 25 per cent.

Choren plans to produce 15,000 tonnes of biofuel a year. It is marketing the product as SunFuel to petrol retailers and motorists. read more

The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) says concern over the emissions of a cancer causing agent from Shell’s Geelong plant in Victoria are unfounded.

Some residents have accused Shell of withholding data that indicates there were high emissions of benzene during April.

The EPA has warned the company to continue to work towards lowering its emission levels.

EPA spokesman Bruce Dawson says residents should not be concerned.

“EPA scientist have examined Shell’s data and we conclude that that does not show high levels of benzene,” he said.wduv read more
