Shell Exploration & Production Co. will keep its Mars Tension Leg Platform oil and gas production facility shut down longer than anticipated, the company said Monday.

The company, a unit of oil joint venture Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Cos., said it shut down the Gulf of Mexico facility May 22 after discovering a small leak from an oil pipeline. After discovering signs of deterioration to a natural gas export line, the company said it would keep the facility closed longer than the three weeks that were originally anticipated. read more

DARWIN Dow Jones)–East Timor Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri said the impoverished country will look at a “creative solution” to help speed development of the Woodside Petroleum Ltd. (WPL.AU)-operated Sunrise gas field in the Timor Sea.

But Alkatiri said East Timor isn’t prepared to back down on its border dispute with Australia over ownership of petroleum reserves that could be worth US$12 billion to the island nation. read more

Shell Egypt NV and Shell Austria GmbH (collectively “Shell”) and Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company ksc (KUFPEC) today announced that an agreement has been reached for the sale to KUFPEC (R) Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of KUFPEC) of Shell’s 40 per cent stake in the BG operated Rosetta Concession in the Nile Delta, some 65 kilometres offshore Egypt, including the currently producing gas field and onshore/offshore plant.

The transaction is expected to be completed later this year, subject to all necessary Egyptian and Kuwaiti approvals, as well as the pre-emption and approval rights of partners in the concession. The terms of the transaction remain commercially confidential. read more

PERTH, Australia — As Woodside Petroleum Ltd. prepares for the biggest exploration venture in its 50-year history, investors in the Australian energy company are betting that new oil finds will push its share price to new levels.

Buoyed by soaring crude oil prices and West African discoveries, Woodside’s shares have risen 45% during the past year, roughly three times as much as Australia’s benchmark S&P/ASX 200 share index. There could be more to come. read more
